Treatment Options
Emphysema can’t be cured, but you don’t have to just put up with
your symptoms.
With the right treatment, you could breathe more easily, be more active, and enjoy a better quality of life. There are a number of treatment options available, with and without medication. Together with your primary healthcare provider, which could be your GP1, you can create a treatment plan that works for you.
Many people will use more than one kind of treatment to manage their symptoms. Different treatment combinations will work better for different people.

Non-surgical options include COPD medicines, such as inhalers and
oral steroids, stopping smoking programmes, pulmonary rehabilitation and oxygen therapy.
If you’ve stopped smoking, or are willing to stop, and medical management
is no longer working, you may be suitable for a minimally invasive option called Zephyr Valve treatment.
Zephyr Valve treatment
Zephyr Valve treatment is a bronchoscopic procedure, also known as
a bronchoscopic lung volume reduction.
Zephyr Valve treatment doesn’t require surgery, just a medical procedure. Using a device called a bronchoscope, the doctor places small valves into your airways.
These valves are placed in your airway and help you breathe better.
